MEET THE AUTHOR

Denna Valraven
I’m Denna Valraven, a Lithuanian writer of gothic fantasy, drawn to misty forests, old magic, folklore, and complicated hearts.
My debut novel, The Runes She Sang, grew from my fascination with Norse myth and runic lore, weaving together witchcraft, transformation, mystery, and slow-burn romantic tension. It is the first book in The Song & Spindle Duet.
My fascination with Nordic culture deepened during the years I spent studying in Norway, and traces of that inspiration continue to find their way into my fictional worlds. My stories often explore characters caught between who they were and who they are becoming—people marked by difficult experiences, strange powers, and choices that refuse to leave them unchanged.
The name Valraven draws inspiration from the Valravn of Scandinavian folklore, a supernatural raven associated with darker old tales. It felt fitting for stories where beauty and darkness tend to share the same path.
When I’m not writing, I’m usually somewhere between a coffee and a plot twist, disappearing into fictional worlds—whether through books or games—or building suspiciously specific playlists for characters who have taken up far too much space in my head. Inspiration tends to find me everywhere: in music, folklore, travel, and the small, strange details of everyday life. These days, much of it inevitably finds its way back to The Song & Spindle Duet, whose second book is currently waiting for me to return to its pages.
